Boys Scouts sans Morality. A look at the new Boy Scout organization and their stripping good morality from their finished product.

Boy Scout Movement is Now Trans-Friendly ‘Authentic Self’ Group

This post is my reaction and thoughts after reading this article in Breitbart https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2024/05/07/boy-scout-movement-becomes-trans-friendly-authentic-self-group/ on the Boy Scouts of America dropping “Boy” from their official name.

Why did the Boy Scouts come into Existence?

1 Corinthians 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers (those who focus on sex), and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication (sexual perversion), uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 

The purpose of the Boy Scouts was to train young boys morally. These young people were/are known for their energy and mischievousness. They were always active doing things, and without direction, unfortunately, they often got into trouble. (Here is another issue that is directed related, but not for this post. The issue that churches back in the time of the Boy Scouts’ founding were not able to really minister to these young people on their on. No personnel, no funding, no desire, no vision, etc.)

But the Boy Scouts were always about instilling morality in young boys. I, Pastor David Cox, was in the Boy Scouts.  From my recollections, not everybody that was in the proper age range was accepted in the Boy Scouts. In order to be a Boy Scout, to enter, you had to have recommendations from people as to your good moral character before you got in. From my memory, those guys my age who were dedicated to stealing, sneaking alcohol and drinking it, etc. DID NOT WANT TO BE A BOY SCOUT! The purpose in recollecting this point is that everybody knew in the 1970s that the Boy Scouts were all about instilling morality in young people. Even among those of the Scouts’ age range, if they didn’t want to be a morally upstanding young person, then they stayed away from the Scouts. How sad that not only has this changed, but how far it has gone today.

Back when I was a Boy Scout, it was a great honor to wear the Scout uniform, and be a Scout. It said something morally about you. It meant most probably that a Scout always could be expected to be faithful, true, honest, hard working, and a long list of things that is just good morality. Getting an after school job was a lot easier when the kid was a Scout. People trusted Boy Scouts. They looked up to them. This is because the entire purpose of the Boy Scouts was to instill good morality into young people. All of this was taken from the Bible; it was Bible principles.

2 Peter 1:5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

Virtue is strength, moral strength. God wants us to grow in moral strength, and to avoid at all cost moral perversion. The Boy Scouts was an organization in which each week the Scouts focused on building up their lives to be good moral examples, strong in doing what was right in God’s eyes.

One Good Deed a Day

Beside a manual that was a large book on how to do so many things, as well as a guide in this morality, all Scouts had to “do one good deed each day“. We were not limited to only one, but at least one. This good deed usually took the form of doing something of good service to somebody else. Helping an elderly woman take her groceries from the store to her home, etc.

But the point is, by being a member of the Boy Scouts, the movement forced the habits of good morality. Today, we cannot even recognize what that “good morality” should be, much less can we attain it as adults. It is a completely impossible task to teach our young people these principles and form habits in their lives of always doing it.

The New Scouts

“In the next 100 years we want any youth in America to feel very, very welcome to come into our programs,” Roger Krone, who took over last fall as president and chief executive officer, said in an interview before the announcement.

The organization began allowing gay youth in 2013 and ended a blanket ban on gay adult leaders in 2015. theguardian.com

Isaiah 5:21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

The emphasis of the new scout organization is to not be judgmental, and let “boys of all orientations” enter into their group and “be themselves.” To me, (I am a pastor and missionary for almost 40 years now), but to me, this is surprising. The first part of being a Boy Scout in my youth was the interview and the recommendations by adults that you would be a good candidate for a Scout. That is what the new Scout leadership has stumbled over. A simple “check box” before entering. In my day, there would never have allowed a gay boy into the Scouts. That is the basis of the new Scout make-over, making it okay, making an open invitation to sexual perverts to join them, and making that point the very basis and foundation of modern Scouting. What a turn-around!

I am not interested in what perversion the world does. They will be responsible to God one day for what they say and do. But it is a very disappointing point when I have to accede that what I thought was a great moral teaching help (the Boy Scouts) is a morally perverting organization today (Scouts of America). I am just disappointed, discouraged with what I see in them.

While some people are “all in” on this new Scout organization, the Boy Scouts of America has been in bankrupcy, and this renovation is a concession in order to economically continue existing. But my opinion is it is better to give it a fitting burial and end it.

Luke 16:14 And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him. Luke 16:15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

2 Peter 3:17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

We have lost our Moral Compass

Our problem today is that the majority of the people in our country have they themselves lost or never found their moral compass. While this is tragic in itself, it is frustrated and made worse by these directionless, morally confused, and just morally worthless adults are now in charge of the Boy Scouts. What they are doing is the exact opposite of why the Boy Scout organization was founded. They are destroying the moral fabric of America, especially the young people. When I was a Scout, the possession of a porn magazine was sufficient basis to be removed as a Scout from the organization.

The Fight for Morality

2 John 1:8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.

In America, the United States, we were taught to respect others, including their opinions. That, along with many of the Scouts’ principles, has stuck with me throughout life. But in the fight against immorality, it would seem that I was taught certain principles that shock me now. They shock me because I see people in the morality wars who do not abide by these rules. The one rule I am thinking about is that let each live their own life as they see fit, but it is completely correct to practice and reproduce my/our morality. In other words, the structure and principles of the United States allows and foments each person has this liberty. But now, moral people are assaulted on every side, and it seems as though the government and civil law is going to forcibly punish anybody actively living an unapproved morality!

3 John 1:11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

For context, many years ago, gays were forcibly persecuted for their lifestyle decisions (nobody is born gay, rather each gay individually decided to be gay). While in history past, this decision was met with death, persecution, and stigma in society, in more recent past, they have “come out of the closet.” The gay community only request at that time was that they be allowed to live and practice what they believed in. While I do not approve of gay activity, nor do I see them as having a valid moral lifestyle (they found their lives on sexual perversion as their only foundation), I could see “leaving them alone.” But notice that they have come out of the closet, wanted to be recognized as a valid group, then they have taken to the streets, and finally they are demanding not acceptance alone, but that every participate with their sexual perversions. This is exactly what happened in Sodom and Gomorrah, and as God judged those cities, God will judge us today.

When people who have a gay inclination or acceptance look back at history, they are a gasp to think that governments actually killed gay people just for being gay. Well, if you look back at the Old Testament Israel, this was the situation. God’s harsh view on gays is because God sees it as a great perversion. This perversion is rooted in sexual perversion, but extends to all life. God will save a gay person and allow them to enter heaven, but just as with every other kind of sin, the condition is that the person has to confession his sins, abandon or repent of them, no longer doing them, and do what God proclaims as justice, what is right and a duty for a saved person to do. Those points seem hopelessly abandoned in our day.

Many of the Boy Scouts met weekly in Churches

Is it really a shock that the Boy Scouts of my day met weekly in churches, usually on Saturdays? These churches saw what the Scouts were doing with young people, and they would compete between churches for the privilege of having a Scout troop based in their property. I never once remember a pastor or a sermon in a Scout meeting. But if you read the Scout manual, morality was woven throughout everything we did as Scouts.

The Rubber Meets the Road

While churches would teach Sunday School lessons about how young people are morally supposed to be and act, the Boy Scouts was a how-to-do-this-every-day thing. What we learned in church overlaid exactly what we learned as Boy Scouts. So the assault on modern day Boy Scouts is another religion wanting to rip the insides out of the moral Boy Scouts. What we have left isn’t worth existing.

The New “Scouts of America“

The new “Scouts of America” rebirthed organization is really a sham. They are a modern make-over to overlay the perverted morality of today onto this organization. They dropped “Boy” from their name as though it was extremely distasteful. Furthermore, they want feminized boys, or trans boys, but not good ole healthy all American boys. This in its self should tell any wise parent to keep their kids away from the organization.

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

The homosexuals “licked their chops” to think what they could do with a dozen young teen boys in the woods in a tent. That is the point of what has happened. Rather than morally teaching good morality to these young men, they saw it as an avenue to teach more innocent people their moral perversions.

2 Timothy 3:14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;

1 Thessalonians 4:3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: (fornication is sexual perversion)

Ephesians 4:18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

So morally, we are now to compare and see as the same a gay adult as the same morally as a pastor? Hardly!

Psalms 11:3 If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

Today this organization which was built upon a good moral principle is the very teacher of immorality. The old Boy Scouts was an organization that had the Christian moral principles at its base. Today it is a classroom for sexual perversion.

1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

What were some of Old Scouting’s Principles?

When I was in the Boy Scouts, we were taught to be good, moral people. To define this, I would say that the Scouts taught me a heart oriented service to others. We were taught to be excellent citizens, loyal and patriotic to our country. It turns my stomach to hear people who march against America and all it stands for. But being a good citizen is now a bad thing in many people’s eyes. Blaming all kinds of things “on America” is the new highly wanted attitude. As a country, we are America, good or bad. But the individuals in a country are what define that country morally. You cannot somehow separate activity (good or bad) from the very individuals doing it.

Once these people die, there is no bringing them back into judgment. There is only how their moral errors are still repeated in present day people’s lives. But the Boy Scouts of old were unselfish people. We were taught to serve others, and not be selfish, not be egotistical. The Boy Scouts were the embodiment of opposition to all Narcissistic thought. Only a narcissist would condemn something like the Boy Scouts of old. They would love the modern Scouts of America.

The Requirements before Entering the Boy Scouts of Old

The scouts of my day were always supervised by adults, men who were married to a single woman. If these supervisors were known to be unfaithful to their wife, they would have been forcibly removed. You cannot teach morality to others if you do not openly and proudly practice it. Neither can you teach morality to young people if you do not use discipline. Ultimately, a boy failing the principles of the scout has to leave or be removed.

Conclusion

It is heartbreaking to see what has happened to the Boys Scouts. So many young people back in the day were trained to be good people. We have lost a great aid in our society with the moral fall of the Scouts.

Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
